Tuition fees and Financing

Tuition fees

The annual tuition fee for the dance education program is € 5040,- and may be paid in advance in monthly installments of € 420,- at the beginning of the month, at the latest on the 10th of each month.
Further costs are an annual examination fee of € 60,- and in the 3rd year a total of € 160,- for the two big theater performances.
(€ 80,- for the Admission to Dance performance in March and € 80,- for the Graduate Students Choreographies performance in September).
Costumes must also be purchased for the respective performances.
The additional expenses for the exams and theater performances are due at the end of the month prior to the exams and dance performances.
Likewise, you must budget for the expense of dance wear. All students in dance training wear uniform clothing in class.
You will also need to find affordable housing and budget enough money for your living expenses. You have to keep in mind that you should not eat only junk food during your dance training, because your body will need enough high-quality nutrients.

DANCE EDUCATION PROGRAM INFO

Health insurance during dance studies

Health insurance in Germany is obligatory for everyone. In case you don’t come from Germany you will have take care of your health insurance in advance.

For accidents occurring on the way to/ from, or in the Dance Academy, all students are covered under the general conditions of the  “Berufsverwaltungsgenossenschaft” (Statutory Accident Insurance).

Student Finance

Tuition financing

You always need to check in your home country, whether there is student finance or student loan for studies at universities or institutions of higher educations. This varies from country to country.

The student finance in Germany called BAföG in is available for everyone with a german nationality only. In some cases it could be possible to apply for BAföG  without having a german nationality, e.g. if you have lived in Germany already for a certain period of time or if one of your parents has been working in Germany for a certain period of time.

For danish dance students: unfortunately it is no longer possible to apply for the state educational grant of SU in Denmark for any of the private acknowledged dance institutes in Germany (as well as in Denmark). The SU grant is only available for studies at universities and accredited higher education institutions.

For swedish dance students: it is possible to apply for a student loan from CSN (central student aid board in Sweden)

For finnish dance students: you can apply at Kela for financial aid and can get 9 months of financial aid per academic year while attending your higher education.

For Eurasia dance students: you will not be allowed to work in Germany. When you start your fundraising with the help of our partner Eurasia Dance Project International Network, you need to plan in the extra amount of money you will need for housing, maintainance and the health insurance!

Citizens of the USA, Australia, Canada, Israel, Japan, New Zealand, Switzerland, as well as EU citizens do not need to apply for a work visa to Europe. However, upon arriving in Germany, you have to apply for your residence and work permit.

You can buy cheaper transportation tickets at the BVG (Berlin public transport company) with your student ID  (trainee monthly tickets with student ID II).
NEWS: recently the new 49,- Euro ticket was introduced in Germany!

Part time job

Often, the subsidies are not enough to finance the training along with the living costs. Many of the students therefore have to go to work beside school. This is possible either before or after classes, or even on weekends. We recommend that you plan at least one day a week as a completely free day, so that the body has sufficient opportunity to regenerate.

The grants alone are often not enough to finance your education and living costs. Especially if your parents cannot support you or can only support you insufficiently, financially things can become tight for you. Many students therefore have to work in addition to their training. This is possible either before or after classes, or even on weekends. We publish the timetables in good time so that you can plan accordingly.

However, we advise you to always plan at least one completely free day on the weekend, so that your body can regenerate sufficiently.
You should also avoid working through the night if possible. You have to plan your jobs in such a way that you still have enough energy for the classes. Even if the summer vacations are a good time to take a job, you should plan a training-free time as well as a work-free time. Your body will thank you for it.

Private educational training in the field of dance costs much less money in Germany than in other European countries or even worldwide.
Nevertheless, we think it is almost impossible to finance all the costs without any support only through part-time jobs. This would only be possible through very well paid work. The regeneration times for the body should be taken seriously and kept by you as a prospective professional dancer, because you will need your body for a very long time.
